It has been 6 years since the release of Windows 10, the operating system we have all become at home with in recent years. Naturally, the time has come for an upgrade, and just recently Microsoft have announced the launch of their next operating system – Windows 11.

So, what’s new? How will it affect your business and what do you need to know?

Well, on the surface, Windows 11 will have a visual face lift from what we are used to with Windows 10, the biggest difference being the new task bar seen at the bottom of the screen. Effort has clearly been made to make this as minimalistic as possible, almost resembling that of the Mac OSX application dock.

However, the core interface of the system will be largely familiar. You will still have access to file explorer, control panel, and your usual onboard applications without much change. There has also been a big push on multi-tasking with Windows 11, most prominently the addition of new tools such as snap layouts and switching between different desktops seamlessly.

Windows 11 will also build on existing security features, better update support, and easier transitions to your monitor when using a laptop. All with ease of use in mind.

Windows 11 can be simply thought of as a big update for Windows 10. You may see from the surface a big change in layout and design, but most of the core components are kept the same with some welcome updates.

So when will this happen?

Well so far, we know Microsoft are targeting an end of year release for the new operating system. You can expect to find new devices preloaded with Windows 11 in the new year. As for existing machines, Windows 11 will be a free upgrade assuming you meet the specification requirement, details can be found here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-11-specifications
